A
Strategic Research Alliance between Drexel University, Thomas
Jefferson University, Exponent, Inc., and Stryker Howmedica Osteonics
Corp.
The
Implant Research Center is a joint initiative of the School of
Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems and the Department
of Materials of Engineering.
The
Implant Research Center (IRC) has been established with seed funding
from Stryker Howmedica Osteonics Corporation to conduct research
on implantable medical devices. Stryker Howmedica has also donated
a compression molding press for implant research.
The
goal of the IRC is to provide insight back to the surgical and
engineering communities for improving the longevity of implant
technologies. The initial focus of the Center will be on orthopedic
total joint replacement and spinal implants, but future directions
are expected to include ophthalmic, dental, cardiovascular, and
urologic implant research.
The
IRC is the cornerstone for a strategic research alliance of Drexel
University with two medical partners, MCP Hahnemann and
Thomas Jefferson Universities and two corporate partners,
Exponent, Inc., and Stryker Howmedica Osteonics Corporation.
